I am the author of the poetry collection MY SISTER’S FATHER (2017), the blog PET MURMUR (2016-2020), and INVESTIGATIVE POETICS (2022). I taught writing and literature at the undergraduate and graduate levels for over a decade, and I now help young writers find their voice, develop their craft, and imagine the possibilities of storytelling in a new age.
I began teaching as a graduate fellow at Brown University, where I designed undergraduate poetry workshops and taught fiction in the Pre-College Summer Program for teens.
I continued teaching undergraduate courses as a doctoral candidate at the University of Denver, where I was awarded the Arts, Humanities, & Social Science Dissertation Fellowship for my research and writing in media and television studies.
In 2012, I moved to NYC and joined the faculty of The College of New Rochelle, School of New Resources—a non-traditional baccalaureate program for working adults in pursuit of a college degree. As an Assistant Professor of the Liberal Arts, I taught English courses, wrote curricula, served as an academic advisor, mentored adjunct faculty, and chaired the Letters Department. I was also a leader in College governance and taught fiction in CNR’s Master of Fine Arts Program.
Since deciding to leave academia, I have worked as a bespoke tutor and creative coach, guiding adolescents, teens, and adults on journeys of critical and creative self-discovery.
I understand education as a human right, art as an essential service, and writing as a spiritual practice. These were the tools by which I was able to rewrite my story and transform my experience of the world. As a result of my personal and professional experience, I am deeply committed to diversity, access, and equity in education and the arts.
Through my teaching and writing practices, I have discovered simple techniques to dissolve blocks to self-expression, and I am excited to share these tools with writers.
I feel called to help you find power in writing and to imagine new and sustainable paradigms for the sharing and delivery of knowledge.
